Please contact the clerk on matters regarding the Cemetery.
Willingham Parish Council is the burial authority for Willingham Cemetery on Marton Road. It is a non-denominational cemetery for burials and the interment of ashes. The Parish Council works hard to ensure that the cemetery and its surroundings are well maintained and that dignity and calm are preserved at all times.
Grave plots can be purchased at the time of burial. It is also possible to pre-purchase plots at this cemetery directly with the Clerk. Cemetery services may be booked through local funeral directors.
Records of Burials
Records of burials in the cemetery from 1903 onwards are held by the Clerk.
Memorials
Memorials are a lasting symbol of remembrance. The Parish Council is able to offer technical advice and help to make sure that all memorials meet cemetery regulations. These regulations are in place because the Council (as owner and occupier of the site) has a duty under health and safety legislation to do all that is reasonably practical to protect the safety of anyone who enters the cemetery.
Further details can be found in the Council’s Cemetery Regulations and Charges attached.
Responsibility for the safety of memorials once erected lies with the family of the deceased. If a memorial is found to be unsafe, the parish council will endeavour to contact a relative of the deceased to notify them of the situation and to advise them that the memorial should be made safe. If no living relative can be found, the parish council has the right to lay the memorial down.
